I had a great reference question today. For those of you who haven't heard, all reference librarians are now certified psychics. A lady I have never seen before approached me holding a book I have also never seen before and said, "Everything I like is gone. Will I like this book?" I looked at her in disbelief for a few moments (hoping she would realize the inanity of her question) before explaining the obvious, "Ma'am, I don't know what kind of books you typically like, so I really couldn't answer that question."
Also at work yesterday: The Conspiracy Theorist came in looking for information on underground passages in Washington D. C. I found a book on the subject and printed the Amazon.com order information for him. He put his briefcase up on the counter to stow the precious info and I noticed a homemade lable on the front of the briefcase (you know the kind from the old lable makers with the plastic strips and the letter wheel you turn and click...) The lable read "TOPSECRET". I wanted to ask, but I didn't.
